                    LEANNE WOOD AWARD

  MEN – Tony Danzi

Tony first joined the competition in 1997 as a member of the Bombers Mens Team.  After a few seasons Tony joined our umpiring panel before final retiring from playing in 2007 when his Bombers team finished. Since then, Tony has been actively involved as a senior umpire and as a mentor to many of the less experienced umpires in the competition. On several occasions, Tony has been awarded the Umpire of the Season. Throughout the 28 years of Tony’s involvement in the competition, he has always been one to assist should we be short of umpires, to advise on matters pertaining to umpiring and to readily volunteer should management need someone to cover difficult games. It is our pleasure to recognize Tony’s contribution with this prestigious award. Well done Tony!

WOMEN – Melissa Galea

Melissa (Mel) first joined the competition in 2020 as a participant of the Rockettes

Womens Team under Kelly Tanham. When Kelly handed running the team over in 2021 Mel became a part organizer of the team along with Jess Matacz. Mel has now been the Rockettes Team Manager for the past 4 years. She has excelled in her role in ensuring the Rockettes team is always able to field a team and remains competitive in spite of injuries and changes in team personnel. Besides being a good organizer, Mel is also a highly skilled player and has been awarded several Fairest and Best Awards. Mel’s calm cheerful pleasant nature has complemented the competition ethos. She is also always ready to lend a hand to fill in for teams should teams need an extra player. Mel even tried her hand at Mixed Basketball a few seasons ago. Thanks Mel for your contribution to the Basketball Innovations Competition.
