To ensure each game is conducted in a positive manner, you as a Basketball Innovations player should:
– Be supportive of the aims and ethos of the Basketball Innovations Competition.
– Play fairly and safely by the rules. Encourage others to do likewise.
– Never argue with an umpire concerning decisions made in the game as umpire decisions are final. Umpires can occasionally make mistakes. However, play the game with the attitude that umpires are always right.
– There be concerns, the team captain, coach or manager may approach the umpire in a polite and respectful manner during a break such as a time-out. Remember umpire time is limited and so such discussion must be brief.
– Control your temper. Verbal abuse of umpires, coaches or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable.
– Treat all players, as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully, sledge or take unfair advantage of another player.
– Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of gender, ability, culture, race or religion.
– Give your best for your team. The team’s performance will benefit as well as yourself.
– Be a good sportsperson. Applaud all good plays whether being your opponents or your own team.
– Cooperate with your coach, captain, team-mates, opponents and officials..
– View in proper perspective any isolated incidents of unsporting behaviour rather than make such incidents the highlight of the event.
– Avoid engaging in practices that affect sporting performance (e.g. illicit drug use, drunkenness)
– Put all issues and complaints in writing to the competition management.
– Be on court ready to play at least 5 minutes before your game is to commence.
– Wear the appropriate team uniform for the game.
– Attend training regularly if you are a member of a designated training team.
– Contribute to your team’s game fee payments.
– Notify your coach/team manager WELL IN ADVANCE if you are unable to participate or be late for a game. This gives your team time to make arrangements to cover for your absence. Heavy penalties apply for late or un-notified forfeits. Each team member will be held responsible to cover the cost of late notice forfeit penalties.
