Being a friendly, social competition and to ensure each game is conducted in a positive manner, people who make the decision to participate in the Basketball Innovations Competition are required to abide by the Basketball Innovations Players Code of Conduct.

Basketball Innovations players are expected to:

 Be supportive of the aims and ethos of the Basketball Innovations

Competition.

 Play fairly and safely by the rules. Encourage others to do likewise.

 Never argue with an umpire about decisions made in the game.

Umpire decisions are final. Umpires can and do make mistakes,

but play the game with the attitude that umpires are always right

even if in your opinion their decision is incorrect.

 If there are concerns, have the team captain, coach or manager

approach the umpire in a polite and respectful manner during a

break such as a time-out. Remember umpire time is limited and

so such discussions will have to be brief.

 Control your temper. Verbal abuse of umpires, coaches or other

players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not

acceptable or permitted.

 Treat all players, as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere

with, bully, sledge or take unfair advantage of another player.

 Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless

of gender, ability, culture, race or religion.

 Work hard for your team. The team’s performance will benefit

and so will you.

 Be a good sport and applaud all good plays whether they are for

your team or for the other team.

 Cooperate at all times with your coach, captain, team-mates,

opponents and officials.

 Place in proper perspective the isolated incidents of unsporting

behaviour rather than make such incidents the highlight of the

event.

 Avoid engaging in practices that affect sporting performance

(e.g. illicit drug use, drunkenness).

 If you have issues or complaints, put them in writing to the

competition management so they can be addressed in an

appropriate manner.

 Be ready to play at least 5 minutes before your game is to start.

 Purchase or hire and wear the appropriate team uniform for the

game.

 Attend training regularly if you are a member of an officially

designated training team. Many teams do not train.

 Notify your coach/team manager WELL IN ADVANCE if you are

going to be missing or late for a game. This will give your team

time to make arrangements to cover for your absence. There are

heavy penalties for late or un-notified forfeits. Everyone in the

team including yourself will be liable to cover the cost of the fine.
